Havelhöhe Community Hospital, Berlin

The Havelhöhe Community Hospital in Berlin is an acute care hospital with 358 beds and 850 employees. It is one of the three major acute anthroposophic hospitals in Germany that offers not only modern emergency medicine for the regional population, but also the additional treatment possibilities of Anthroposophic Medicine.

Main focuses of the Department of Internal Medicine are Onkology, Diabetology (including training courses), Gastroenterology (digestive and metabolic diseases, Intestine Centre), Thyroid Centre and Cardiology (including cardiac catheterization lab and pacemaker therapy) and Pulmonology (Lung disease, Lung Cancer Centre). The Pain Centre and the Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Unit are centres in their own right. Havelhöhe is a certified Cancer Center with Breast Cancer, Gynecological Cancer Center, Lung Cancer Center, and Colon Cancer Center.

The Department of Psychosomatic Medicine for adults and young adults offers areas to adults, adolescents and patients in the "Motivating Drug Withdrawal" module. This department also provides the integrated co-treatment of psychosomatic patients on the three internal medicine wards (Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Pulmonology). The department additionally offers treatment modules that can be visited by all patients in the clinic.

The Department of Surgery includes a Centre for Visceral Surgery (including operations on the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas and thyroid), a Center for Plastic Surgery as well as the Centre for Minimally Invasive Surgery and Outpatient Surgery (hernias, appendectomy, gall bladder, haemorrhoids - including "keyhole surgery", i.e. laparoscopic surgery, without an abdominal incision). In such cases the patient is admitted to the hospital on the day of the operation, is operated and provided with support and, if everything is in order, can return home on the same day.

The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics offers the Havelhöhe Breast Centre with all modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, but also the necessary support and time for women to find their own individual way in tackling the disease and regain confidence in their bodies. The Obstetrics unit provides all the technical possibilities available to accompany a safe birth. Above all, parents and babies are individually supported at birth - they are the focus. In breech presentation, external cephalic version (turning the baby the right way down) can be attempted before birth. The senior physician also masters the (nowadays rather rare) art of enabling a child to be delivered normally from such a breech presentation, but naturally also the technique of caesarean section. Since September 2005, Havelhöhe belongs to the "breast-feeding-friendly hospitals" in Germany.

Therapeutic painting means an intensive dialogue with oneself on the search for inner balance. The inner experience of working with shapes and colours can also contribute to the regulation of functional processes in the body.
