The Filderklinik
Stuttgart-Filderstadt

The Filderklinik was opened in 1975 is a secondary level provincial hospital with 219 beds in five major departments and 575 employees. The Filderklinik is the emergency hospital for the nearby Stuttgart International Airport.

The Filderklinik is named after its region: the Filder landscape near Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Wuerttemberg. Located on the edge of a conservation area, the hospital provides all major medical departments and provides a helicopter landing pad for the Red Cross.

  • The Emergency Department provides for emergency and accident patients and all those whose acute problems cannot be met by the general practitioners of the area. These practitioners also have their emergency practice here at the Filderklinik.
  • Beyond providing an adequate anaesthesia during surgery, the Department of Anesthesia provides specialized pain treatment during childbirth, as well as for cancer or other serious illnesses.
  • The Filderklinik is a Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, and there is a 24-hour surgical standby. The Intensive Care medical Unit has ten beds.
  • The Radiology Department has one of the most modern MRIs.
  • About 1,500 children are born every year in Obstetrics ward. The Filderklinik is certified by WHO as "baby-friendly hospital" since September 2003.
  • The department of Gynecology specializes in oncology surgery and in organ-preserving operations on uterus and ovaries. A urodynamic test site is available for accurate diagnosis of incontinence.
  • A focus of the Internal Medicine Department is its Centre for Integrative Oncology, as well as the treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, asthma and rheumatism.
  • The Children’s Hospital has 33 beds and one of the first breast-feeding-friendly departments in Germany for neonatology (newborn and premature infants). Main paediatric focuses are the treatment of asthma, eczema, epilepsy, depression and eating disorders.
  • The 27-bed ward of the Department of Psychotherapy / Psychosomatic Medicine treats patients with anxiety disorders, phobias, depression and compulsive disorders, fatigue, eating disorders, patients in biographical crises and with cancer. Here - as with other diseases - the anthroposophic therapies are particularly valuable.
